1. Who we are and what this policy covers
Ordinary Industries (registered as a private limited company in England & Wales) operates this website. Our physical desk is located at 55 Temple Row, Birmingham, B2 5LS. Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, we act as the data controller for the personal details you share with us through this site.
We believe in straightforward business practices. This means we do not run tracking scripts to follow you around the web, and we never trade email lists with third-party marketing brokers. This policy explains how we collect, store, and look after your information when you browse our site or book a consulting engagement.
2. The information we collect on our site
We only collect personal information that you choose to send us. This typically happens when you use our contact form to book a 25-minute diagnostics call or request an estimate. The details we collect usually include:
- Your full name and job title
- Your professional contact details, including your work email (such as name@company.co.uk) and phone number
- Specific details about your operational challenges, like HGV bottlenecks or warehouse stock discrepancies
When you use our online tools, our server also logs basic technical information like your IP address. This helps us maintain security and prevent automated spam. By the way, we use a single functional cookie that expires after 1.5 hours to save your inputs on our payback calculator while you browse.
3. How we use your business data
We use your information strictly to coordinate our consulting projects. If you ask for a Baseline Margin Audit or an on-site floor walk, we use your notes to prepare our scoping documents. We do not use your details for automated marketing campaigns, and we never profiling your company using external databases.
Your data is only accessed by our three-person team in Birmingham (David, Arthur, and Sarah). We do not share your warehouse database schemas or shipping records with outside parties unless you explicitly authorise us to do so in writing during an integration project. Any data we analyse is stored on password-protected local drives or secure UK-based cloud storage servers.
4. Data retention and safety
We do not keep data forever. If we complete a tracking integration or route project for you, we retain the system logs for 3 years to help your staff troubleshoot any software issues. (We are required by UK tax law to keep invoices and financial records under physical lock in our Birmingham office for 6 years, but this does not include your operational databases).
If we have an initial diagnostics call and decide that our tools are not a fit for your floor layout, we purge your emails and database notes within 12 months. This keeps our system clean and ensures we do not hold onto legacy business records that we no longer need.
5. Your legal rights under UK law
Under UK data protection laws, you hold clear rights regarding your information. You can contact us at any time to ask for a copy of the personal details we hold about you. You also have the right to ask us to correct spelling mistakes in your records, limit how we use your email, or delete your contact file completely from our systems.
To make a request, simply email our team at solutions@ordinaryindustries.com. You do not need to fill out complicated legal forms. We handle all privacy requests directly from our Birmingham office, and we aim to respond to your inquiry within 3 business hours during standard working days.
